Getting Balance in Your Rooms
One of the things that you want to strive for in your decorating is balance. Have you ever been in a room that felt "tilted". It really wasn't but it felt that way because large items were all located on one side of the room or the room had low lighting on one side but not the other. An unbalanced room feels anything but comfortable and cozy. Fortunately, you can bring balance to a room with some moving around of the items within and perhaps the addition of a piece to even out the feel of the room.
Your room might have the perfect paint job and the finest in furnishings but if you haven't balanced your interior, it won't come together. When it comes to achieving balance, less is more. Get rid of the clutter and leave only a few items out to decorate a tabletop or shelf.
Pairs make balance. If you have any pairs of items you have split up, say one in the living room and one in the den or bedroom, put them together and create a sense of balance in your room. Adding a set of
gallery shelves is a great way to balance a large wall and also display some of your favorite collectibles or art works.
A great way to add balance around a sofa is to add a standing lamp on each side. This is the essence of balance in a room. It will also create a balanced lighting effect in your room so you get two decoration additions with each lamp. If you don't want to add a pair of lamps or you have two metal lamps that look similar but are not a pair, just give them matching shades, it will create an air of unity and you can still keep your favorite lamps.
