Get the Look of More Space
Small room getting you down? Make some positive changes in your decor for the New Year and with some design magic you can turn the tiniest and most cramped of spaces into a comfortable room for having friends over and no one will feel claustrophobic.
First of all, think light. Not light from light bulbs, but from colors. If you want your space to seem larger, get ride of dark curtains and dark colors on your walls. Light colors expand spaces in the mind's eye and therefore create the illusion and feeling of more space.
Next, bring in the
mirrors.
Mirrors are the greatest for brightening and making a room feel more open. The best placement for a
mirror or two is on the wall that faces the door that you enter the room through, that will immediately create the illusion that the room is longer than it is to anyone entering. Also, get rid of the clutter. Nothing can make a room feel stuffed like clutter.
Shelves and
cabinets will do a wonderful job at getting rid of the cluttered feeling that your room can get quite quickly when you have lots of bric-a-brac out.
Use
pillows to bring some softness to your room and match them to the lighter shades in your room as they will accent the lighter colors and continue the vibe of making your room feel larger and more spacious. Add some favorite plants and for a personal touch, put some photos around your room to put your personal stamp of style on your interior decor.
Use these tips and instead of a moving or knocking out a wall in your home, use the magic of color and design to make your room feel larger.
