An area rug is for a lot more than to hide a spot on your carpet. You can use an area rug to do a lot more than that.

One fantastic use for an area rug is to make a small cozy space within a larger room. A good example would be if you have a larger room and you want to create a cozy space to have coffee or tea with friends. Use an area rug to create a space to put a table and sofa on and make yourself a little place to have friends over for quiet conversation and cozy get-togethers.

In front of a fireplace is another place to put an area rug. Along with protecting your carpet from popping embers that just seem to happen when you least expect it; it will also lend an air of warmth and make the room seem just a little more cozy.

If you find that your color scheme in your room is a tad boring, you can use an area rug with a few bright colors in it to give the room a little more "pop". If you find you have used two main colors and they seem to divide your decor, you can bring the two colors together and make your interior design flow if you choose an area rug that has both colors in it.

Take the type of area rug that you choose into consideration. Braided rugs, for instance, create a farmhouse look, while an Oriental area rug can instantly make a room more sophisticated.
