Updating Your Dining Room Furniture
Sometimes all it takes to update the look of a room is to change one main piece of furniture. Updating your dining room is easy to do once you decide on the look you want.
You will have two basic choices for your dining room. You can either update your room with a new dinette set or you can section off your dining room and let it still serve as a dining room but also as an entertainment section. Add a corner section with a pub table and 4 bar stools that fit right under that table when not in use. You can also get a little bar cart that will hold glasses and a couple of favorite brands of wine for entertaining.
Another great addition for updating your dining room would be to add a buffet which will hold all your favorite dishes for serving within. A combination sideboard and buffet is an ideal way to serve up larger gatherings as you can have a smorgasbord allowing each guest to get what they want from various dishes on the sideboard.
If you're looking for a whole new look for your dining room, take stock of the look you have now. If you have a classically designed dining room table and you want a more modern feel, go for wrought iron and glass or one of the
swivel and flip table and chair sets if you find since the kids have gone off to college you just don't set a table every night. A swivel and flip table will be out of the way until you need it.
And those are just a few tips for getting the look you want for your dining room. Whether you replace your table or add a buffet or pub table, you can transform your dining room area into a decor that is inviting to everyone.

Getting the Most Out of Your Furniture
Getting the most out of your furniture is a priority especially if you don't have a lot of space in your home. If you make every single piece of furniture in your home do at least two functions it's easy to have a great and functional decor.
A great piece that every home can use is an
armoire. Armoires are not just for the bedroom anymore. They can make fabulous entertainment centers. Most designs will easily hold your television and can hold your collection of DVDs and CDs in the lower shelves. When you're not watching television or you're interesting in having a quiet evening at home without the blare of the tube going on,just flick off the television and close the doors to the armoire and you have a serene room for entertaining.
A useful double duty item is a clothes hamper and cabinet for your bathroom. It will keep your dirty laundry from being in view as well as a flat cabinet top for holding useful items. Another must have for a small space is a tall skinny shelving unit. They can go over the toilet area in the bathroom and make use of that wall space and don't forget about using shelves on your walls to hold items.
If kitchen space comes dear, clean out your cabinets of all eating pots and pans and hang them on a decorative and very functional pot rack. This also allows you to make use of some ceiling space while adding a very chic touch to your kitchen.
And that's just three rooms in your house that can benefit from multi-function furnishings. No matter if your home is large or small, try to get the most out of your furniture.

A Desk for Your Dorm Room
When you're looking for dorm room furniture space saving is going to be one of your biggest concerns.
Dorm rooms are not known for being spacious in the first place and if you have a room mate you will have even less space to call your own. There aren't a lot of changes you can make for your decor; however you can make sure that each piece of furniture you use in your dorm room does dual duty and that will be a huge space saver for you.
Computers are now a necessity for college life. Instructors will require that your papers be typed and printed; additionally there will be times when you need to research last minute subjects and the library won't be open. Sitting down and logging online is a convenient way to find the information you need. Instead of having a desk in your dorm room that will be cluttered and full of junk before you know it; opt for a computer desk you can "put up" when you're not using it.
An
armoire computer desk is ideal and comes with a lot of bells and whistles that make this a fully functional desk ideal for the college student. The armoire has been customized to hold a standard desktop PC with a monitor. There is a slide out keyboard tray, a shelf for your printer and also room for a scanner or books on a lower shelf. On each door inside a cork bulletin board to tack up important notes, numbers, or photos. Inside the other door is a dry erase board for write notes or reminders to yourself or others. When not in use, the keyboard slides in flush with the unit, the doors close and all your work is protected. You can also utilize the other areas inside this unit for holding necessary computer "how to" books and items you need to complete assignments.
A computer desk armoire is a great addition to your dorm room. It allows you to have all the computer equipment you need as well as save a lot of valuable space in the room and keep the clutter to a minimum.

Using Area Rugs
An area rug can change the entire look of your room. If you are just looking to brighten a room up go for an area rug that has brighter colors. If you want a small space to seem a little larger choose an area rug that has lighter colors. And in the same mind frame; a large room that lacks personality can be made to seem more cozy just with the addition of a some dark colors will help the room have a more homey feel.
Another way to use an area rug is to designate one special part of your room as a special spot. One fun way to do this is to make area of your room an entertainment area. Lay down an area rug and then put a sofa and coffee table or a gathering of small chairs around. Up against one wall in your corner area put a small bar with glasses and keep it stocked with a few bottles of good wine, that way you'll always be ready to entertain friends.
If you have a high traffic area, a strategically placed area rug can save your carpet from a lot of wear and tear and enable it to stay looking great. Periodically, take your area rugs in to a dry cleaner to be cleaned if it is very dirty and your area rug can stay looking great if you just vacuum it on a regular basis and if you happen to get a spill or spot on your rug, you can spot clean most accidents with a mild solution of soap and water. Family rooms can benefit from an area rug by giving the kids a central place to play board games or roll toys . Also, area rugs look fabulous in front of a fire place and can also save your carpet from a popping cinder that would melt your carpet.
Area rugs have more uses than just tying in the colors in your decor, they are useful and functional items that no home should be without.
