Space Saving Solutions for Two Children
If you have two children close to the same age. They will probably be rooming together to save space in your home and a great solution that gives both children ample
room to sleep as well as space in the room to play is a
bunk bed.
You can even let each child pick out their own
bedding. If you have a child that loves Sponge Bob Square Pants and another that love Go Diego Go!; both children can get what they want and show their individual style even though they are sharing a
room.
A good choice for a bunk bed is the
New Zealand Pine youth collection which pairs a great set of bunk beds with some functional additions. This isn't just two beds stacked on a rail. This is a fully functional
room unit that your kids will get a ton of use out of.
The solid wood
twin beds are supported by a sturdy, solid wood study
desk and also drawers for clothing or other storage are also part of the support system of this
bunk bed. There are three drawers by the desk and then five drawers by the bed acting as a support as well. An interesting fact about
New Zealand Pine wood is that it is grown at very high altitudes to ensure a very hard wood. The wood used to make these
beds is further kiln dried to make this wood ultra-hard and durable and it will resist twisting and warping and put up with years upon years of use by your kids.
If you're looking for a space saving solution for bedding for both your children, consider
bunk beds!

Think Outside the Box
Do you hate your boxy room? Don't let your room make you miserable, there are a lot of options you can do to change your boxy room into a cozy, comfortable nook that won't feel the slightest bit boxed in.
First of all open it up with some color. If your ceilings are heavily textured, scrape and smooth them off. Then paint in a light, glossy color. It will help open up the room. Where the ceilings meet the walls, consider adding some decorative molding. It won't exaggerate the square shape of the room but rather add interest to the dimensions of the room instead of emphasizing the square shape.
Then look downward in your room and if you don't have anything around the area where the wall meets the floor. Consider adding decorative baseboards. They bring a sense of warmth to your room without calling attention to the boxiness of the shape.
Break up your walls with curves. Round
mirrors, flowing draperies with curved or scroll worked rods will help add some necessary softness to the corners of your room. Even round or oval framed artworks or impact pieces such as a resin casting will also help define the walls and take away from the boring square design of the room.
Small roundish shaped
console tables used within the room will also lend a nice curved edge to your style. Avoid box-shaped
chairs and
sofas. Go for curved edges and you'll have a soft, comfortable room as a result.

Classic Styles for the Bedroom
For many people, the modern lines of an Eames design or the austere feeling in a room that is created with Art Deco, is just too formal. They don't really want trendy looks like Shabby Chic either. They want classic designs. Once you design your room in a classic design using pieces that are noted for their longevity you will find that your room never looks "dated" and is always in style.
If you're updating a
bedroom to a more classic style, go for some of the
furniture styles that have withstood the test of time and fads.
Armoires used to be a classic way to hold a wardrobe, today they are more often used to hold a television that can be closed off when it is not in use. Tall
dressers will do the job of the long skinny dresser that you probably have in your
bedroom now and will use less floor space.
Add a
chaise lounge to your bedroom. They are idea for reclining on and putting your feet up after a long day at work, running errands and trying to keep to your busy schedule. As for your bed, go for a tall Victorian, nothing is more cozy and comfy. Add a delicate eyelet bedspread and lacy pillowcases and you'll have a decidedly classic look in the making.
Another classic piece of
furniture that is making a comeback is the
vanity were once an integral part of every woman's bedroom. They fell out of favor and in past
Vanities few years have really started to appear again as a place for a woman to call her own in the bedroom.
