Bed Accessories That are Fun and Functional

When you're redecorating your bedroom, take a tip from professional decorators and make the room your own by putting your own personal stamp on your decor choices. With the bed being the focus of every bedroom, you want to be sure you choose what is right for your decor, your budget and most of all, fits your personality. After you choose your bed, make sure you get the right accessories that will not only be functional but add a sense of "you" to your room.

Bed Steps make an elegant statement in any bedroom. There are a few styles that are currently available. With a graceful air, the Antique Cherry bed steps come in three lightly distressed surfaces: fly spec, cow tail, and rasp surfaces. This is a two-step model with a hidden drawer in the top step. The legs are solid wood in the Queen Anne design sporting a small foot. Panels and skirts are MDF with select hardwood veneers. This step measures in at 19-inches by 15-inches by 15 3/8-inches. The Woodbury Mahogany Bed Step is slightly larger at 20-inches tall and 17-inches wide. It has a lustrous mahogany finish and beautifully carved acanthus corner posts, the step flip open to reveal deep storage compartment.

In the early 1800's, blanket racks were a must have in every bedroom. It was necessary to have several quilts in a bedroom simply for warmth. Today blanket racks still perform the same function but they are also a great way to keep a bedspread that you only need occasionally out of the way. As most blanket racks can hold 3 or more quilts and blankets at a time, they are very functional space savers. A blanket rack will quietly hold your quilts and blankets out of the way until you need them or display a favorite quilt to add to your decor.

No matter what type of bed accessories that you choose, make sure it reflects your personal style and you'll find that you soon have a bedroom that is uniquely "you".

Iron in the Bedroom?

If you want to update the look of your bedroom and you aren't really a wood furniture type of person; think iron. Iron will create a strong mood and even hard, cold iron can be made warm and cozy in the bedroom. Whether you like a clean and modern look to downright romantic, you can make the mood you want with the use of iron furnishings.

As a start, the Madison Metal bed has a clean line and its dark finish makes whatever bedding you put on it really stand out. When paired with a metal headboard such as Silverlake you'll have a winning decor with just two these pieces to build outward from. The headboard is a simple scroll worked flower design that will meld well in a decor that ranges from modern to shabby chic.

If you're a person that likes your accessories to be a little flashy, The Boston Full Headboard is a scroll worked extravaganza that was made for you. This headboard will make a grand statement bedroom. This headboard is made to have an aged pewter look that is hand brushed with black on the scroll worked areas to give it an authentic look. If you want a matching footboard of this design, simply order two to have a complete set.

If you like a minimal, clean lines look for your bedroom. The Sarasota textured metal bed will add an air of elegance and style with its special Vanilla Marble hand-patted and textured metal finish, it is virtually chip proof and will last for many years.

If you never thought of iron as having cozy, warm qualities for bedroom decor, you're probably looking at iron furnishings in a whole new way!

Matters of a Good Mattress

Have you been feeling overly tired? Does your body feel full of aches and pains in the morning? If you're getting enough hours of sleep, the culprit for your tired and achy body might be your lumpy, bumpy mattress that should have been replaced a long time ago. Getting a good night's sleep is important to both your health and general well being. Making sure that you have a comfortable mattress to sleep is as important as the rest of your bedroom decor. Your bed should both look good and be comfortable.

The humble futon has come a long way towards being very comfortable to sleep on. A futon mattress used to be little more than thick padding covered in fabric. Now the futon mattresses are made to be very comfortable and many have inner coil mattresses that result in more back support and a very restful sleep. If you opt for a foam-padded mattress instead of an inner spring for your futon, invest in an 8-inch thickness for the foam. This will hold up to frequent use and will deliver the most comfort possible. Make sure you get a good futon frame that is sturdy if you plan on using a futon as you main sleeping place.

As far as mattresses for beds; you can opt for the foam that will support your body from head to toe or a more traditional inner spring mattress. There is also a combination of the two, where an inner spring mattress is combined with memory foam. This results in a mattress will almost completely stops energy transference, meaning if one person is a tossing and turning sleeper, the other person won't get jostled around. This type of mattress is also perfect for children.

When the child is young use the firm inner spring mattress side and as they grow, flip the mattress over and use the memory foam side to allow your child's bed to conform to the unique contours of his or her body and offer 100% support while keeping their spin in perfect alignment as they grow.

Spot the Dog in Your Little Boy's Nursery

When it comes time to start putting together a nursery for your little one, you can make your nursery have a fun theme by using items from a single collection.

Spot the Dog Crib Set will look stunning in your little one's nursery. It comes with crib quilt, 4-sided bumper, skirt and sheet. This set will give you a bright and cheery nursery look for your little one. And tests have proven that bright colors are stimulating to newborns and make them more alert and more attentive.

You can pair up a Spot the Dog inspired curtain set to continue the theme in your little one's room and if you think you're little one might get chilly, there is a warm and cuddly Spot the Dog Duvet.

This set also has a quilted pillow and matching quilt for the crib. If you have a small lamp in your nursery, there is a matching Spot the Dog lamp shade that matches and blends in with this entire set. The matching cotton floor mat is sold separately but will ensure your crib, your window treatments and your floor will carry a theme for Spot the Dog in your little man's nursery.

Your baby won't be little for long and after a couple of years you'll begin wanting to update his nursery to let him be a big kid. Your spot the dog elements do not look "baby-ish" and can grow with him. He may not use bumper pads when he is a toddler but he will enjoy having his other familiar room items around him as he gets older. When you replace his crib with a toddler bed you can use the same color schemes and the quilt, duvet and pillow will transfer nicely into an older child's room.

Don't get nursery items you'll have to completely replace. With just a few changes, Spot the Dog will grow with your child as he goes from a little newborn to a curious toddler.

Thinking Ahead to Spring Cleaning

After you've been cooped up all winter-long in your home, you can start to go a little stir crazy. Think ahead and start planning your spring cleaning this year. It's a good way to get rid of items you no longer need and freshen up your decor without completely redecorating your living room.

During the end of winter, you can start collecting the clutter from the tops of tables, shelves that are holding more than their fair share and other places where we tend to "just set things down". Put the items aside and you'll already see a cleaner and more organized living area.

Next, make a note to take any rugs you have in the room out and give them a thorough cleaning. Even if you vacuum every single day, your area rugs will be in need of cleaning at least once a year. You don't have to get your area rug dry cleaned every single year. When the weather warms up, hang it over a sturdy railing and then gently but with a firm hand, use a tennis racket (or rug beater if you're lucky enough to own one) and beat the dust and dirt out of your rug. Then use a vaccum upholstery attachment and give your rug a good and thorough going over. Address any spots afterwards, you don't want to attemp spot removal on a dusty, dirty area rug as any place you make moist will turn into a dirty mess. Get as much dirt as you can out of your rug, then get the spots out. If your area rugs are looking worn, go ahead and replace them.

Add a few new pillows around your room for spring. Start shopping now and bring in a bright color to lighten the mood and make your room feel new. Use these tips to make your living room feel bright and spring fresh.
